Being impersonated online is no joke

Today, I discovered someone had created a WhatsApp profile of me with a different phone number.

A wave of fear washed over me. What were they using it for? How many people might believe it was actually me?

We strive to be vigilant with our online social media accounts and privacy settings. Yet, sometimes, there will be someone hiding in the bushes and trying to shatter your carefully constructed persona.

A stolen photo with few fabricated details can generate a new online persona with a single click. These fake identities can be someone’s nightmare as they could cause potential damage. Imagine the fake profile creator uses your name for malicious purposes such as spreading misinformation, scamming, damaging your reputation, or even committing financial fraud.
